Guided Respones

10 of my favorite phases/sentences
Catch By: Will Leitch
1. pg 3 – I’d have to be a complete moron not to actually graduate.
- This sentence reminds me a lot of my graduation day because my high school was easy. If you just went to school then you were going to graduate, the teachers were going to make sure they did not have to see you next year.
2. pg 7 – “From all of us here at Mattoon High School, we say congratulations, graduates!”
- Another sentence that reminds me of my graduation day, when everyone it congratulating on graduating high school. People make it seem like a really big deal but in my mind it was not that great of an accomplishment because when I got to college, I had realized that my high school really did nothing for me.
3. pg 15 – It’s your big day.
- When I hear someone say “It’s your big day”, I think of a birthday so that is why I choose this saying because I think birthdays are great.
4. pg 21 – No sleep is enough.
- I totally agree with Tim here on this one, no matter what I always feel tried. Even if I get a good eight hours sleep I am still tried, I just do not understand that sometimes.
5. pg 26 – Man, could I do some damage to this girl.
- I hate when I hear this come out of a guys mouth. It’s like they are just looking at us, us objects not people with real emotions. I just wish men could realize that we are human beings too.
6. pg 40 – It’s the Cardinals!
- I had to choose this saying because one I am a Cardinals fan, and two because Tim Temples is a really big Cardinals fan and he watches almost every game they play.
7. pg 51 – This is what I’ve been missing?
- I like this sentence because when I say it, it gives me some kind of relief knowing that I have actually not missed anything at all.
8. pg 109 – “You’re dazzling, baby dazzling!
- I picked this saying because when I read this part of the book it made me laugh trying to picture Tim being Dean Martin.
9. pg 177 – Don’t screw it up. Don’t be an idiot.
- Tim says this a lot throughout the book after him and Helena start having there thing. Every time I read it, I always think about a guy falling in love for the first time and they are trying there hardest to be the best guy ever when he really just needs to be himself.
10. pg 213 – “Old lady gave you a night off?”
- I hate when other guys tease each other when one has a girlfriend he likes to spend time with, more than some of this lame friends. Guys just do not realize how much affect they have on other guys and that’s why I picked this saying.

Catch by: Will Leitch

What I like about Catch so far is that it is a really down to earth book. The whole time I have been reading this book I can actually believe what he is saying about his friends, family, girlfriend, and work. This book really brings really life to your face. The parts in the book that stirs up my emotions is whenever Tim kind a freaks out to himself about really liking Helena. You can always remember how you first felt when you started to fall in love with someone. You try are hardest to be with them every second of the day and night. The good thing about that is Tim and Helena work at the same place. So that probably relaxes Tim a little bit. Then you never want to make that person mad at you. Which sometimes I think Tim does not speech his mind because he does not want to piss of Helena. But I guess in the long run I could be a good thing. A couple of problems Tim has are that one he has never really had a girlfriend so he does not know how to act. Two he does not want to come off as needed because that then Helena will for sure run away from. So Tim does his best trying not to look needed but also trying to show Helena that he really likes her and thinks that he might want to spend the rest of his life with her.

Free Choice Catch by Will Leitch

For my next reading book I picked Catch by Will Lietch. This book caught my eye because the man who wrote the book is from Mattoon, Illinois, which is close to where I live Mason City, Illinois. When you are from a small town like Mattoon and Mason City you like to listen to how much are towns are similar so that is another reason why I picked this book. So far I am about 25 pages into the book and it really reminds me of my Graduation Day from high school. Where most of the kids really do not care about listening to the speaker on stage at the Graduation, they are more worried about just getting there diploma and where the party is going to be at tonight. They surely did not know if they were going to go to college or stay home and get a job in town somewhere. Well after Graduation was over most of my class went to one house and stayed there all night and hung out. Tim’s class did the same thing. Tim was lucky because he was the one with the cool parents who let his friends come over to party as long as everyone gave there keys up so his parents could make sure everyone was staying. Then the day after Graduation hits and your parents are making sure you have a summer job and are thinking about what you are going to do after summer is over. Just like my town parents’ care and want their children to do better than they did.

Free Choice

Let’s see here, one really big question I have about the texts is, why Hannah would give the second copies of the tapes to Tony of all people. I mean, I know Tony is not on the tapes but he and Hannah really were not friends either. They only knew of each other because of school and that does not mean much. But Tony probably would have never gotten the tapes if he had not given Hannah the hand held tape recorder. I guess Tony was just a lucky one. That was a really nice guy and did not spread rumors or was not mean to anyone. We will never really know why Hannah Baker decided to give Tony of all people the second set of tapes. One thing that really does make me happy that Tony got the tapes. Is when he got them he did not freak out and take them to school the next day to let other people listen to them. All he did was listen to the tapes himself and then followed Hannah’s words of making sure everyone on the tapes listened to them and then pass them on to the next person on the list. I guess three really good things did come out of this, and they were that we found out what made Hannah kill herself, everyone in her life got to see how much they really affected her choice to kill herself, and that Tony and Clay are really good people that should not feel bad at all about Hannah’s death.

Main Character

The main character of Thirteen Reasons Why is Clay Jensen. When I think of Clay Jensen as a really person, I think what a great guy. Even thought everyone on Hannah’s tapes did something to her to make her think about killing herself. Well Clay Jensen was on those tapes but Hannah states that Clay Jensen does not really belong on the tapes. Clay Jensen was a guy that you never heard anything bad about him and he was always a nice guy to everyone. He does diverse some praise for not making rumors about people that were not true. Clay should also get praise about being a good friend and listener. So, even thought I think Clay is really a great guy, he does make me very mad in the story. Clay makes me upset because he is so shy. He was specialist shy around Hannah. Clay really liked Hannah, and I believe that Hannah and Clay could have been boyfriend girlfriend if he was not so shy. I believe that if Clay was not so shy he could of possible saved Hannah from killing herself. The night of the big party when Hannah and Clay finally got together and talked, was the night that Clay should of stood his ground and told Hannah how he felt about her. I think that would have made a huge change in Hannah’s life and for the better. Well I know that I cannot blame Clay Jensen for Hannah’s death but I do believe he probably could have changed her mind if he was not so shy.

Title Significance

The title of the book I am reading is called, “Thirteen Reasons Why,” by Jay Asher. I am not real far into the book yet so I do not know the complete significance of the title. I do believe that the author chose this title for the book to help explain the tapes in the book and maybe some other things that I have not read about yet. So far, I have found out that a girl, Hannah Baker, has killed herself. Before she killed herself, she made seven tapes with 13 sides of herself talking. Each side of the seven tapes she tells in detail of why she wanted to kill herself. That is where I believe the title of the book came from; “Thirteen Reasons Why”, Hannah Baker killed herself. Then, I also think that maybe there are 13 people that influenced her to kill herself but I do not think that the people realized what they were doing at the time. After Hannah died the tapes she made went out to a list of people one at a time. Maybe there were also 13 people on the list. Hannah also made a map that went along with the tapes, so the people could visit the places she talked about in the tapes. Since I have not read much maybe there are also 13 places on the map to visit as well. I think that the title of the book “Thirteen Reasons Why,” has some kind of connection to everything talked about in the book.

Thirteen Reasons Why

So I have just started reading “Thirteen Reasons Why” and right now I am not very happy with the reading. I am not really excited about this reading because it seems boring to me. When reading I really just want the author to hurry up, and just tell me what happened to Hannah Baker? Why she sent these tapes to people she knew. If I was one of those people that got the tapes to listen to I would probably freak out. So far I think, if I was Clay Jensen right now, the one that has the tapes now and is listening to them, I would have just skipped all the tapes and just sent them to the next person on the list. Who wants to listen to a girl who is dead, talk about her life that does not matter anymore. Listening to a dead girl talk is kind of creepy to me. I know that I would never want to hear my grandma’s voice after she is gone it would just make it hard for me to get over her being gone. I know that I sound kind of mean right now but it is just how I feel. I just have this feeling that I kind of know how this story is going to go and I do feel sorry for Hannah in a way. Then in the other hand she probably chose or put herself in the position for something bad to happen to her. I just hope that I am completely wrong about this story because I really want to like this book that I have to read.

The Great Gatsby

When my teacher in high school, told my classmates and I that we were going to be reading “The Great Gatsby,” for our class I was a little mad. At the time I did not do much reading and I defiantly did not like reading a book that someone had to make me read. So I had gotten in my mind that I was going to hate this book and there was no point in reading it. Then, the day came when my teacher passed “The Great Gatsby” out to the class. Of course, we started to read the book in class that day too. While reading the book in class, I noticed that I actually kind of liked this book. So from there on out I actually read a book for class and liked it. I believe that, I liked this book so much was because I like love stories and in “The Great Gatsby” there was a love story between Gatsby and Daisy. What amazed me about Gatsby and Daisy was that they had fallen in love when they were young but then WWII had broken them up because Gatsby was sent off to war. But the whole time they were apart they stilled had feelings for each other that never died. When Gatsby and Daisy finally meet again it was like they were never apart but for that Daisy was married and had a young daughter. What really broke my heart was that Daisy did not leave her husband to go with her true love Gatsby in the end.

Blog Test

Most of the reading I did in the past was just reading for school. So reading to me was textbooks, worksheets, and once in a while I would throw a book or two in there but mostly just homework. Now that I have gotten older, I still mostly read for homework. There are times when I do get on facebook and read small post that people do. Probably the most reading I do comes from texting and that kind of reading is not always great because people do not make full sentences or words in there text.
